Frequently Asked Questions

How are you compensated for your services?

We are a fee-only wealth advisory firm.  We do not sell any investment products that earn commission for us. We don't work for a bank, brokerage house, or an insurance company. Therefore, we are not beholden to any financial institution and our sole objective is to look after the interests of our clients. All fees are fully disclosed and there are no hidden fees, loads or charges.

How often will you review my account?

Your portfolio is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.  If conditions warrant, we will make changes in your portfolio to help you achieve your objectives.

How often will I be updated on my portfolio?

You will receive statements from your custodian itemizing account values, transactions and allocation on a monthly basis.  Disch & Associates will also provide you with customized portfolio appraisals, detailing account values, performance and other relevant information on a quarterly basis.   We can also create these reports on an ad-hoc basis as requested.

Can I keep my assets where they are and make the changes myself?

In many cases, it is necessary for accounts to remain with a certain custodian (active retirement plans, trusts, etc.) and we will still be able to manage them for you.  For accounts that are portable, we strongly recommend opening an account in your name, at Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services or TD Ameritrade Institutional, that we can directly manage on your behalf.

Do I have to stay with your services for any length of time?

Our objective is to build long, enduring relationships with our clients and their families.  If, however, there is ever a need to terminate the relationship, the Agreement may be terminated (in writing) at anytime and without additional cost.

Can I receive my portfolio reports electronically?

Prospectuses, trade confirmations, monthly statements and quarterly portfolio appraisals are all available in electronic and paper format.

In whose name will the investments be held?

The investment accounts will be held in your name (or your trust, IRA, etc). We have limited power providing authority to trade in your accounts.  You will receive trade confirmations after each trade either electronically or by mail.

Can you help me with my taxes?

Tax planning is an integral component of our advisory service and we regularly consult with our clients' tax professionals.  We do not, however, prepare or file tax returns.

Are references available?

Yes, upon request.

Is there a cost for the first meeting?

The first meeting is always complimentary.

Is there a charge for additional meetings?

Our annual advisory fee covers all client interaction.  We are available to address any questions or concerns you have in person, over the phone or via web conference.

I don't live near Boston, is that a problem?

Our client base is geographically diverse across the United States.

What steps are required to move my accounts to Disch & Associates?

After obtaining your signature on requisite forms, we handle all aspects of the account transfer process.

Will my account have the same protection offered by the big brokerage firms?

Our custodians are members of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).  Securities in your account are protected up to $500,000.  In addition, u
p to an aggregate of $250 million of additional securities protection, of which $900,000 may be applied to cash, is provided by London insurers.  This protection is limited to a combined return to any client from a Trustee, SIPC and London insurers of $150 million.  This overage provides you protection against brokerage insolvency and does not protect against loss in market value of the securities.
